Don’t Judge!

Posted on July 23, 2010

There is a very common English idiom "Don't Judge The Book By Its Cover" It is probably the most common expression used in English to convey vanity. But what if you are showing a good example but someone might saying that "It is natural for human to do that, and I know you are doing it too" How you will react on it? Then they are already judging you without knowing who you are.

Maintaining a good name can be your goal. Ask yourself, So how will you be remembered? If you had died yesterday, what would people be saying about you today? This is a question that might motivate all of us to improve on how we act. But despite of your good acts, Some might judge you to offend you, some are guessing that you are doing something wrong in order for it to be reveled. Whatever you may experience, you need to keep calm and don't return evil for evil.

I write an article about this post because of some situations that I saw. A Person told a man "Manyak!" (a Filipino word means lover of sex) in front of many people and he was so much embarrassed. Another one saying is "There is no evidence that you are doing that" and "You said that you teach, but I cannot see you preaching". So how could you react on this? First you need to tell them that you are not what they are thinking about you. If they don't believe on what you say, then you can leave them alone and just give respect on what they believe about you. You cannot do anything about it, it is there own expectations, there might be some reason why they are telling this, but remember that you must always keep calm.

Before they finally judge the person, let me explain to you some belief that might help them to modify there memory or repair there bad-sectored data based on the files written in there hard driven mind.

It is not good to judge a person or even to tell a joke in front of a lot of people especially on personality judgment. Some might believe that the person can be "Manyak" because of what they heard. Remember that we are taught not to believe in sex before marriage as many people do. And those who are judging a person might be the one who is... They might find a way to catch you. I know it might be hard to prove especially when those people judging you, are the one you deal with your everyday life. I can remember a person's joke that "I think you are hiding a secret." Whatever they believe about you, never force them to believe on what you truly do.

You don't need to give an evidence to everybody on every good things you are doing. You can do your motive in helping without letting others know. I know someone who help people in long term like giving an sponsored College Education for less fortunate students, financial supports and allowance for family who are in need, and other financial help. Some are helping not in long term but can be short term like fares for unlucky students, buying foods for children, providing a temporary shelter, even helping prostitutes who are trap, and a lot more. You can tell your friends, but the motive of helping is to help and not for fame or to be glorified. People might forget you but "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them." -Hebrews 6:10 (NIV)

About teaching and preaching, since I am a teacher, I can give a good advice on this. Teacher must teach his students because he want them to learn (and not primarily because of salary) But Teacher is also teaching because of his salary, and that can be a secondary reason for the reason of his family to have a food to eat. But when it comes to ministry, why you are preaching? Because you love people and it is the only sacred service that is commanded to us "to go therefore and make a disciples". So every Christian must be a minister. You might not see that person preaching in your house because every group has its own territory. Christian in America don't preach in the Philippines, but they are really preaching. Whatever your location is, they have the same message. I hope this is clear... Going back to teaching in school, a teacher needs a discipline, remember that a teacher can be the boss in the classroom. He can be the controller. A good teacher teach students with care and teach students even nobody is watching. In College there are positions available to check the teacher if it is present in the class, they are what we call Human Resource Supervisor - Roving Officer, where those HRS check the teacher if it is present in the classroom and doing his work (to teach students). A College Dean is also responsible in checking if the teacher is teaching the right materials to student. Whatever positions or authority available to check you, you must have your own discipline if they are present and even if they are not. Because if you are just a teacher because of your profession, you cannot teach student in a right way and you cannot let them to give a good feedback once the class is over. An HR can only check you for a minute, and a Dean can only evaluate you for a moment, but you need to teach your student for an hour and not for a minute. If you love your student, then it helps you to teach happily with less effort, you can ask your self. Why I am teaching? It is because people know that I am a teacher? Because of my salary? Because I want to be popular? Because It makes me happy? If your answer is "yes", you just call yourself a teacher and not a true teacher.

Lastly, You can tell the person "bad" if it is obviously and proven, but if not, then never judge. To conclude this blogpost, you need to be careful on what you say and always never judge other people, Because they know themselves more than you know them, and you know yourself more than others.
